Amelia Island 09'

This time of year in Boston
A need for an escape is well within reason
Perhaps some southern hospitality, Amelia Island style
For the first concour of the season

Friday, this car guy felt right at home
AMGs, a new Bugotti, an Iconic, and so much more
Getting our blood pumping by welcoming us at the door
Smiling as I entered the Ritz to get my credentials
Enamored by a 59' Cooper T-51 roped in the lobby looking quite presidential

Saturday, auction day for many a slice of automotive art
Perusing the over 100 diversified lots
The W111 Cab., of course, was closest to my heart
Hundreds of thousands invested as the sale rolled on
Peaking to the point of electric for the presence of the 59' Ferrari California Spyder
But the bidding stalled just shy of 2 mil. refusing to be pushed any higher

Sunday, either it was in the cards or a perfect alignment of the stars
That allowed the sun to finally shine on this eclectic mix of cars
Perhaps 'cars' is too generic for the diversity of this commanding display
Between the racers of the affable F1 host Paul Hobbs and Group 44
To the staples of Germany, England, France, Italy, and some from the US too
Were Kurtis', Siatas, Mercers, and a Isotta Fraschini from behind the barn door

Awards were a plenty so I'll will start the highlights with my most beloved marque
The M.B. Star of Excellence went home with the keeper of the Kemp
For their 39' 540K Cab. A, the vehicle that set the 'elegance' bench mark
Best of Show were two that earned the right to boast at center court
A perfect 23' Miller 122 Supercharged was the victor of the Sport

Expertly restored to perfection was a 31' Voisin C20, part of the Munder Collection
It's symbiosis of simplicity and complexity did not escape the judges detection
The vision and attention that this French car demanded was more than most
One I will always savor, this Concours victor was exemplar from pillar to post

Many thanks to Mr. Warner the venerable host
And his staff and volunteers for producing such top shelf pageantry
So worth while for this automotive hedonist to travel the coast
And contribute to their philanthropy
